Driver's Education Part 1

  Guidelines and requirements:

  • Students must be 14 years and 8 months old before the first day of class.
  • In addition to normal classroom lecture and discussion, weekly written assignments and quizzes will be given to evaluate each student's progress. A certificate of completion will be given at the end of the course.
  • Actual on-road driving time will consist of six hours in order to meet the state certification guidelines.
  • Attendance: State law requires 24 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. *Anything less than 24 hours will result in the student being dropped from the program.

 Please review the following questions.

1.  Does the student require any special accommodations to participate in the classroom phase (i.e. test being read to him/her, an interpreter, seating arrangements, etc.)?

2.  Does the student require any special accomodations to participate in the behind-the-wheel phase (adaptive devices, an interpreter, etc.)?

3.  Is the student taking any medications that may affect his/her ability to drive a motor vehicle safely?

4.  Are there any medical conditions that would pose a concern with the student's behind-the-wheel instruction (i.e., epilepsy, asthma, color blindness, hearing loss, etc)?

5.  Is the student's visual acuity at least 20/40 corrected?

6.  In the last six months, has the student had a fainting spell, blackout, seizure, or other uncontrolled loss of consciousness?

7.  In the last six months, has the student had a physical or mental condition which could affect his/her ability to drive a motor vehicle safely?

If the answer is yes to any of the questions 1 through 4, please contact Community Education to explain.  If the answer to question 5 is no or either of questions 6 or 7 is yes, then the parent/guardian must provide a letter signed by the student's physician indicating that the condition has been corrected and/or is under control, and the student meets the physical and mental requirements for a motor vehicle operator's license under Section 309 of the Michigan Vehicle Code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.309.

By registering for this class, you understand the above information and certify that the student meets the physical and mental requirements to participate in this class to the best of your knowledge.

It is required by the State of Michigan that the class size does not exceed 36 students. Register NOW! 

Class is not held on days that there is no school. On half days, the morning session will still meet however the afternoon session will have no class.

 



Driver s Education Part 1

Get Fit - Stay Fit (18+)

 This one hour class is fun for all ages and fitness levels. A low impact cardio workout is followed by toning with hand weights. Abdominal and other floor exercises enhanced by pilates and yoga moves, followed by soothing stretches, will leave you energized and feeling great!

*Please bring your own hand weights and exercise mat.

Class is for adults.

Class is held Mondays and Fridays 9-10:00 a.m. and Wednesdays 9:30-10:30 a.m. for all sessions. 




Get Fit - Stay Fit (18+)

ACT Success (grades 10-12)

ACT Success prepares students for all five sections on the ACT Test: English, Math, Reading, Science Reasoning, and Writing. Utilizing effective teaching methods and completing relevant weekly homework, students will learn the rules, strategies, and test taking skills necessary for success. Students will work with real ACT practice tests, as well as, numerous skill builders to further enhance their test-taking abilities. Of the students who complete the ACT Success class, 95% increase their ACT scores!

*Material Fee: $45, for materials and a book, to be paid to instructor the first night.

Driver's Education Part 2

Guidelines and requirements: 

  • It is recommended that the student be 15 years and 9 months old before the first day of class.
  • Students must have completed Part I and received a Validated Green Certificate. 
  • Students must obtain a Level 1 Learners License at the Secretary of State prior to taking Part II.
  • Students must hold a Level 1 Learners License for 90 days prior to the first day of class.
  • Students must have completed a total of 30 hours of driving time with a parent/guardian prior to the first day of class.

Aventura Spanish Summer Camp (Ages 6-11)

This camp will take your child to a new world of learning and fun! Children have a great time learning and practicing Spanish as they "travel" to a Spanish-speaking country, make a piñata and other crafts, sing, cook and play games in Spanish.

Summer Orchestra (Grades 6-9)

Calling all string players entering grades 6-9! Summer Orchestra is for students who have had at least one year of instrumental instruction on the violin, viola, cello, and bass. Students will work on a variety of techniques while performing a variety of musical styles including; classical, rock, and fiddle. Some of the topics to be covered in Summer Orchestra: tuning the instrument, basic shifting, developing a vibrato, improvising, and ensemble performance. Summer Orchestra will be a great way to keep those fingers moving and the brain engaged while performing music amongst fellow string players!

Whats New
Art and Acting Studio

 Spend your morning using your imagination as we create art: painting, working with clay, learning about colors, making prints, and using art to express who we are.  In the afternoon we’ll use drama games, pantomime, storytelling, and improvisation as we learn theater terminology, how to create a character using our faces, voices, and bodies, and how to rehearse for a performance.  The class will culminate in a final presentation for family and friends at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 29. Please bring a snack, water, and a bag lunch to class every day.

Mother's Day Surprise (Grades K-5)

Are you ready to make Mother’s Day extra special for your Mom (and/or Grandma)?  Do you want to give her something you made yourself and is sure to make her smile? Then this is the class for you.  We will be making your mother a surprise gift that you will design and create yourself and then we will wrap it up so the surprise won’t be spoiled before her special day.
